The story

The RS01, sold under the name Pionier, meaning Pioneer, was the first tractor built in the German Democratic Republic. Its design was taken from the FAMO XL, a tractor produced before the Second World War.

Building began in 1949 at the Horch works in Zwickau, then moved in 1950 to the new tractor factory at Nordhausen. It weighed about 3.3 tonnes and had a top speed of 17.5 km/h.

Production ran until 1958, and the RS14 followed it.
